Staphylococcus aureus
Upon internalization by professional phagocytes (e.g. neutrophils) and so-called “non-professional phagocytes” such as endothelial or epithelial cells, some Staphylococcus aureus strains are capable of escaping from the resulting phagosomes. This process is linked to dissemination and chronicity of S. aureus infection (for reviews see https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijmm.2017.11.009 or https://doi.org/10.1111/cmi.12997 ).
