Biodiversity, Ecosystem Services and Conservation
Module Responsibility: Nadja Simons
Languages of Instruction: English
Learning objectives:
Introduce tools, methods and approaches in conservation and planning. Those include methods for ecosystem modelling, scenario development or spatial planning.
The course is organized as projects for teams of 3 or 4 students and challenge-based, i.e. tackling a realistic problem without a pre-defined solution.
How it works:
- The team identifies a conservation or planning problem based on the interests of the team members
- The team collects relevant data from studies or public sources
- The team identifies sub-questions and develops a concept on how to tackle them
- The team analyses the data and presents the results in a mini-symposium
During the process, you receive regular peer-feedback and input from the teachers. You also reflect on the research process, your personal development during the course and your learning outcomes.
Date and duration: 3 weeks usually early November
Notice: this course can be taken as an individual module or as part of the F1 Conservation Biology / Animal Ecology
