Thaíssa Brogliato Junqueira Engel
Research
Visiting PhD student from the University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil. My PhD project, entitled "Species and chromosomes evolution in Maxillariinae (Orchidaceae)", has as general goal a better understanding of the evolution and diversification of species in the subtribe Maxillariinae (Orchidaceae). Cytogenetic phenomena and important biotic and abiotic factors in the diversification process will be characterized. We seek to investigate relation between the ploidy level and genome size of Maxillariinae species to its distribution pattern and to climatic and environmental variables associated with this distribution, as well as lifestyle and habit.
Interests: Plant evolution, cytogenetics, cytotaxonomy, cytogeography, ecological modelling
